About Us
THE HALIMAH PROJECT
Halimah Project started back in January of 2017 at Michigan State University, as a way for Muslim Students Association to connect and give back to the Greater Lansing Community. At the time, Lansing was a “Sanctuary City” meaning they were accepting refugees and immigrants to live in the city. The majority of them were from Muslim countries. We wanted to make the transition to this new country easier on the youth in particular, who we know we’re coming from situations that may have been traumatic.
WHERE IT ALL STARTED
The Halimah program is named after the Prophet Muhammed's (SAW) foster-mother, Halimah Al-Sa'dyiah (RA). She was a poor wet nurse, it was common for families to send out their children to be raised by the Bedouins. Halimah took in the Prophet PBUH (though he was an orphan) as an infant and raised him until he was 5 years old. With the Prophet in her home, their flock started producing milk in a time of famine. His presence brought many blessings to Halimah's family.

We want to provide support to underprivileged youth the same way Halimah took care of the Prophet PBUH and the endless blessing and barakah that followed.
BECOME A
CHANGEMAKER-
donate!
We do our best to keep our funds limited, however, the cost of food and transportation comes solely from donations. Right now we are only limited to accept 20 students per semester, and we have noticed a huge increase of youth wanting and needing to join our program but we do not have the capacity due to our limited funds.
We recently made the decision to hire a manager to help run the program as it has grown so much, with their help we plan to grow the Halimah Project out of its infancy and into a proper organization.
WE BELIEVE IN THE POWER OF MENTORSHIP
The Halimah Project is a mentorship program that provides support and guidance to refugee children as they navigate their way as Muslims in America.
Our goal is to empower these young individuals and help them overcome the challenges they face as they adjust to a new culture and way of life.
Our mentorship program pairs each child with a trained and dedicated volunteer mentor who can provide them with the support and guidance they need to succeed. We believe that through the power of mentorship, we can help these children reach their full potential and become successful members of their communities.
You can help us continue our important work! If you are interested in making a difference in the lives of refugee children, please consider supporting The Halimah Project.
As a volunteer, you will have the opportunity to build a meaningful relationship with a child and make a positive impact on their life. Not only will you be helping a child, but you will also gain new perspectives, skills and experiences. Volunteering with The Halimah Project is a rewarding way to give back to your community and make a positive impact on the world. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, contact us to learn more about the program and the application process.
